Cover cut area in painters tape, take off butt pad and, still using the calipers, use the end of the stock as a guide and trace new line on rifle. As far as cutting goes, use a jig or band saw. Cut just shy of your marked line and file/sand to finish length. Make sure you keep things level. I would rather sand down that extra bit of material than try to build the wood back up. I also glued on the forend tip, grip cap, and buttstock walnut pieces.
